1) Soft Pastels: Just because it is written somewhere (we're not sure where?!) that autumn/winter colors should be more subtle than summer brights doesn't mean that everything must fade to gray, black or brown for your winter wardrobe. Soft hues like honeydew, cantaloupe, plum and tawny still have a presence when the cooler winds start to blow.

Delicate knits in these colors have been big on the runway but even more so in teen apparel street looks.

2) Bright Takes Flight: A new teen apparel 'flight of fancy' is being seen in whimsical brights that show up in the details. Accessorizing with brights, as in boas, scarves, handbags and hats, is powerfully 'in trend.'

Make sure to keep your look balanced. It's an art, truly a learned to skill, to balance your bright tones with your neutrals. When you get it right, it's a lovely look.

That said, don't eliminate lemon from your winter teen apparel wardrobe. Lemon is a hot color for the fall/winter season. Alternatively, you can turn the color wheel up a notch or two and move into mustard and gold tones to accommodate your teen apparel change for the season

We would be remiss not to mention the color orange which shows up in some form nearly every fall--like clockwork (clockwork orange?). If you are truly an 'orange' person, embrace it without fear. For the more conservative, be careful. The wrong shade can make your skin appear too washed out.

Magenta or fuchsia is another color that falls into the 'tread carefully' class. Too much is tasteless. The right amount, sometimes paired with navy, black or plum can be a fantastic teen apparel color scheme.

3) Cordovan and Burgundy-Safe but Glam: If you are a colorista at heart but a bit leary of lemon, orange and fuchsia, try the latest tones of plum, cordovan and burgundy. These colors tend to look great on most and have a depth that is classic and glamorous.
